Information: One of the most interesting features of NWA 16550 is that it is composed of two types of material that were united after a violent impact in space. On one hand, it contains fragments of the original rock, an ordinary chondrite LL6 , in which some chondrules —small mineral spheres formed more than 4.5 billion years ago during the early stages of the solar system—can still be recognized. On the other hand, the impact was so intense that part of this rock melted, and the molten material enveloped and mixed the fragments that did not melt. As it cooled, this material re-rocked, creating a matrix that holds the different fragments together and contains small particles of iron- and nickel-rich metal and sulfides. Therefore, NWA 16550 preserves in a single piece both parts of the original rock and the traces of the event that subsequently melted and reformed it.
